David Jones is a biologist, whose research focuses on the application of cutting-edge genomics techniques to both basic and translational research in the field of pediatric neurooncology. He studied at the University of Cambridge, graduating with a PhD in 2009. He joined the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany in 2010 to work on the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) PedBrain Tumor sequencing project, where he played an integral role in project leadership and biological interpretation of next-generation sequencing data within the context of this initiative. Now working as group leader for Pediatric Glioma Research within the Hopp Children’s Cancer Center, Heidelberg (KiTZ) and the DKFZ, he is continuing to work on integrative genomic and epigenomic analyses of pediatric gliomas using NGS approaches. The identification of novel molecular tumor classes and modelling of identified alterations for pre-clinical screening is also an increasingly important part of the group’s work. In addition, David is coordinating two international personalised oncology projects using the latest techniques to improve diagnostic accuracy and identify novel treatment approaches for pediatric cancer patients.
